MY Preference 19 MAIN Superyacht Profiles If you're looking to get out on the water or are after an adventurous yachting holiday this season, then the 36.4 metre Tansu superyacht Preference 19 is the one for you, with a brand-new watersports setup, livable outdoor areas, laid-back interiors and a dedicated crew.

Preference 19: A Closer Look

Built and designed by the award-winning Turkish yacht builder Tansu Yachts in 2011, Preference 19 is one of the first in a fleet of robust and retro-inspired superyachts by visionary yachtsman Riza Tansu. Measuring 36.4 metres, she has a beam of 7.2 metres, a draft of 2.2 metres and a volume of 225 GT. The shipyard’s generations of knowledge in wooden and metal yacht building together with Tansu’s keen design eye and love of simplistic, minimalist design elements have resulted in a sophisticated balance between old school values and a highly-modern style that makes a Tansu yacht unmistakably a Tansu.

With its smart layout and emphasis on proper outdoor living, Preference 19 has been described as an ‘instant home away from home’. Thanks to her comfort, practical general arrangement and friendly crew, she’s quickly proven herself as one of the finest charter yachts in her size range. Life on board is all about authentic experiences with those closest to you as you so slip off your shoes, unpack the daily stresses of life and prepare to experience the simple joys of life.

The Best of Ocean Living

Spread across two outdoor decks, guests can unwind on Preference 19’s spacious sundeck that wraps around the wheelhouse and skylounge to form a beautiful Portuguese viewing deck in front of the bridge. Alternatively, head down to the main deck where a large aft deck is transformed into a single open-plan beach terrace that is only a few small steps away from the water’s edge–one of the many reasons why active, water-loving families rate Preference 19 as one of their favourite getaways.

“When the toys are removed from the aft deck, the space that is created is very unusual for this size of yacht,” explains Captain Pieter Coetzee. It is here where Preference 19’s new 6.5 metre tender and two three-seater Waverunners are stored when she is underway and in port. Once the anchor is dropped, this area becomes watersports central. Guests are spoilt for choice with top-of-the-range SeaBobs, stand-up paddleboards, water cycles, snorkel equipment and a selection of towable toys.

First time wakeboarder? No problem. Preference 19’s crew is on standby to teach you all the tricks to get you from beginner to expert in no time. “This season, we have helped teach waterskiing and wakeboarding with our new RIB,” reassures Captain Coetzee. “Our crew will accompany youngsters who are too young to ski by themselves, so they too get to enjoy the experience.”

When things get too hot out on the water, guests are never far away from returning to total comfort as you switch off for the afternoon. “The generous aft deck is turned into a beach club-style relaxation area with an outdoor bean bag lounge and gin & tonics on standby,” tells Captain Coetzee. Alternatively, a welcoming semi-enclosed lounge with two L-shaped dinettes further forward on the aft deck provides some much-needed protection from the elements for quiet moments as you dive deeper into the latest novel on your Kindle.

Unforgettable Alfresco Dining

One of the top guest-favourite areas on board is the sundeck, where a comfy family-style alfresco dining setup awaits as lunch is ready to be served. “Guests tend to dine outside for 90% of their meals,” explains Captain Coetzee, “and this area is perfect for breakfasts and lunches. With an adjacent bar area, it also plays host to many late-night parties.”

The same island vibes from outside seamlessly make their way inside where a wonderfully bright and airy layout welcomes you into your new holiday home. The minimalist style from the exterior is also obvious here, with low and tasteful furniture providing an elegant surprise from the obvious expedition-ready exterior.

Natural wooden surfaces on the floor and the ceiling create an informal atmosphere as you enter the main saloon-one of two internal social areas for guests to enjoy, the other being the sky lounge one level above. Perfect for formal dinners and as a gathering area before heading ashore, the main saloon is directly linked to the yacht’s galley to port. Another corridor to starboard leads forward to the lobby and the owner’s suite.

Accommodating up to 10 guests in her five staterooms, there is room to spare when chartered by a young family. The master suite is located forward on the main deck and benefits from the full width of the yacht, meaning fantastic views from the moment you open your eyes. The remaining guests can look forward to four well-appointed staterooms on the lower deck, which is accessed via the grand central staircase. Here, double and guest cabins make guest arrangements a breeze with en suite bathrooms and plenty of storage as standard. All guest suites are decorated in the same understated, elegant style as found elsewhere on board.

For those looking to head off the beaten track comfortably to get away from the regular crowded cruising areas, Preference 19 most definitely delivers. With her strong, steel hull slicing through even the choppiest of seas with confidence, almost nowhere is out of bounds. “She is perfectly suited to going off the beaten track and can be used to explore remote coastlines,” assures Captain Coetzee. With her zero-speed stabilisers that keep both feet firmly on the teak even when at anchor and a range of 3,200 nm at a speed of 12 knots, Preference 19 fully lives up to her retro utilitarian exterior look, ready to breakdown the boundaries you once thought would hold you back.
