Ideally set up for watersports lovers or families looking to spend cherished moments with those closest to them, Preference 19 is all about outdoor living and dining that promotes healthy living and relaxed wellbeing.
The 36.4 metre yacht was built by Tansu Yachts in 2011 and is elegantly designed as a rugged explorer vessel of a bygone era. This same exterior look is what defines her capabilities, with an impressive range of 3,200nm at a cruising speed of 12 knots and a top speed of 16 knots allowing guests to explore remote coastlines and reach off-the-beaten-track destinations once thought impossible to discover.
Accommodating up to 10 guests on board, Preference 19 is run by a professional and attentive crew of seven, led by Captain James Box. The crew enjoyed their first charter season in 2019 in the eastern and western Mediterranean seas, and a successful 2020 season in Croatia, where they quickly discovered what guests appreciate the most about Preference 19. With a new collection of water toys and generous lounging spaces right by the water’s edge, she promises to deliver a yachting experience like no other yacht in her class can.
We talk to Captain James Box about what makes Preference 19 a fantastic option for a luxury charter yacht holiday in the Mediterranean.
What makes Preference 19 the perfect charter yacht?
She is well-suited to active families who will benefit the most from the various types of watersports we can host, but also couples who want a quiet getaway on a great yacht with an experienced crew. The boat is suited to getting off the beaten track and can be used to explore remote coastlines.
One of the most attractive aspects of a charter holiday on board Preference 19 is the watersports platform. When the toys are removed from the aft deck, a large living space is created which is very unusual for a yacht of this size. This space is turned into a beach club-style relaxation area with easy access to the water for a quick dip if it gets too hot, or simply lounging on the bean bags with a G&T.
Tell us more about the toys and tenders on board.
2019 was our first season on the charter market, so all of our toys are very new. We have a 6.5 metre tender suitable for waterskiing and wakeboarding behind the back of the yacht, which is a fantastic experience for all guests! The tender can take up to 14 people comfortably and keeps you dry when heading out to dinner or lunch onshore.
We also have two Yamaha 3-person jet skis. These are very powerful and have been a great hit with the charter guests. What’s more, there are two SeaBobs, two stand-up paddleboards, two Go Cycles, plenty of snorkelling equipment and an assortment of inflatable toys to tow.
What are some of your favourite cruising areas?
While writing this we are currently cruising Montenegro and Croatia, which are both very exciting places to explore. We are spending a month cruising this area and feel that we need so much more time to see all there is to offer! I think I speak for all the crew when I say we would like to revisit this area and see more and more.
Are younger guests able to take advantage of the water toys and sports equipment?
We always involve the children in the group activities and help them to try things they haven’t done before. For example, this season we have taken the kids out on the water and helped teach a lot of our younger guests waterskiing and wakeboarding with our new RIB. If the children are too young to be able to jet ski by themselves, an experienced crew member will accompany them so they can still enjoy the experience and the whole family is together.
Aside from the toys, we also carry a great selection of games on board, as well as WiFi and multimedia systems to suit any needs.
What are your specialities as a superyacht crew?
The atmosphere on board is relaxed and fun and we love entertaining, so we’re always creating superior entertainment for our guests. We’ve organised themed parties, hosted special wine tastings and arranged fun yacht-hops. We pride ourselves on being able to cater to anyone’s needs-from elegant cocktail parties to a birthday blowout with a full band, DJ and acrobatic displays. You name it, we’ll give it a go.
After all the entertainment, what do you offer for those to looking to keep fit on their superyacht charter?
Preference 19 is a charter yacht well equipped to deliver on every guest need. In addition to our entertainment areas, we also have fitness equipment including yoga mats, TRX, weights, kettlebells and sparring equipment, including a punching bag. The aft deck can also serve as a basketball court, although you will need to go for a swim if you miss!
Aside from the amenities on board, our crew also offer a very personal service to guests. Our first officer Kyle is a qualified personal trainer and has been known to run circuit training sessions at the crack of dawn for the hardy. For those that prefer to spectate, our engineer is an Irish flute player and often can be heard entertaining guests in the evening with a jig.
Where’s the perfect space to end a day on board Preference 19?
The sundeck is the most used area on board, and it’s not hard to see why! Most of our guests tend to dine alfresco for 90% of their meals, so the sundeck dining and comfortable seating area is a great spot to wind down and watch the sun set. With the entertainment and bar facilities there too, this space can host parties until the early hours.
